2020 marked the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s first Endeavour voyage and arrival in Australia, and Australia Post wanted to create a commemorative stamp issue with a series of 10 stamps acknowledging the event.
The collection recognises Cook’s achievements while giving equal representation and acknowledgement to Indigenous peoples who occupied the land; reframing the picture of Australia in 1770 and celebrating thriving Indigenous cultures.
A continuous scene of vertical stamp pairs was created, with themes of ‘navigation’, ‘voyages’, ‘land’, ‘science/botany’ and ‘the journey continues’. The limited palette uses colours from the Union Jack and the Australian landscape.
The collection’s name was chosen to feel accessible to every Australian, no matter how long they’ve lived here.
