In May 2022, the Child Protection Reform and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2022 was passed to amend the Child Protection Act 1999 (the Act), coming into effect on 21 May 2023. The change is part of an effort to reduce the disproportionate representation of First Nations children and young people in the child protection system.
One of the ways in which this will be achieved is by enabling self-determination by families and communities to safely care for their children. Gilimbaa was tasked by the Department to create a campaign, including an engaging 90-second animation that highlights the changes to the Act.
The project also saw Gilimbaa develop a campaign look and feel, cultural design, bespoke character illustrations (working alongside our project partner, Listen to the Graphics), brochure, and poster.
