The Australian Banking Association (ABA) advocates for a strong, competitive and innovative banking industry that delivers excellent and equitable outcomes for customers.
In 2024, it was putting together a fact sheet that would assist First Nations customers without traditional forms of identification to access banking services. This includes information for bank employees and community members on which forms of community identification can be accepted when a customer doesn’t have a driver license.
Gilimbaa was tasked to develop a cultural pattern to be used throughout the fact sheet and then design the full fact sheet itself, with Navada Currie designing the piece.
The circles are a central part of the artwork and represent First Nations communities. Some First Nations communities are not tied to a certain area and travel to and from different areas given the season. The lines connecting each of the circles are a representation of travelling. The blue lines that run alongside the top and bottom represent that the banking industry is on its own journey in learning how to better assist communities with resolving issues.
